How much is Matt Hancock getting paid for the jungle? How his £400k paycheck compares with other contestants

The former health secretary is set to enter the 'I'm a Celebrity' jungle, but his impressive fee, is by no means the ITV1 programme's highest ever

Matt Hancock is being paid £400,000 to appear in I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, but this is a reasonably modest pay cheque compared with the biggest earners of the ITV show.

Hancock isn’t even the highest-paid contestant this year according to reports – Boy George has pipped him to the post this year, earning £500,000.

How does Hancock’s payments compare with those of previous contestants’? Caitlyn Jenner, who appeared on the show in 2019 earned £500,000, as did football manager, Harry Redknapp, who featured in 2018.

The highest earner of all time is TV star, Noel Edmonds, who was paid a reported £600,000 for just nine days in 2018; this works out as just under £3,000 per hour, including when he was asleep.

Meanwhile, model, Katie Price, was paid £450,000 for her second appearance in 2009 while boxer, Amir Khan, earned a rumoured £400,000 for his appearance in 2017.

Football pundit Ian Wright managed to earn £400,000 for his stint in the Australian jungle back in 2019.

Sports stars can seemingly demand much higher pay than other contestants with Sir Mo Farah, Olympic runner, paid a rumoured £300,000 in 2020, with television executives said to have forked out the big bucks for the multiple gold-medal athlete in the belief that he would be a hit with the viewers.

The 2020 series was the first to be held in a Welsh castle, after the show was moved due to the pandemic and Farah’s co-star that year, presenter, Vernon Kay, was said to have also got the next highest pay, pocketing £250,000.

Fellow TV presenter, Richard Madeley, was said to have been paid £200,000 for his time in Wales in 2021. However, due to illness, he was only on the show for a few days.

All of the amounts are rumoured and not confirmed, although it is unlikely the estimates will be far off the mark.
