Nigel Farage was forced to stick his head into a box filled with snakes on his I’m A Celeb debut tonight.
The former Ukip leader took part in the first challenge of this year’s series with influencer Nella Rose and This Morning presenter Josie Gibson.
After inserting his head into the box, the GB News presenter said: “Oh they’re horrible, aren’t they?,” before using his tongue to move all three stars inside it.
Meanwhile, Ms Gibson stuck her head in a barrel of mud to find tokens.
In another trial Mr Farage was forced to rummage through gunk in the back of a burnt-out truck with Ms Rose in a bid to find stars.
After the challenge, Ms Gibson joked the experience “can’t be worse than Brexit”.
“I had a feeling we’d get a bit of that,” Mr Farage responded.
At the end of the episode, the show’s hosts, Ant and Dec broke the news to the campmates that the public had voted for Mr Farage and Ms Rose to complete the next bushtucker trial, entitled Jungle Pizzeria.
In the episode, Ms Gibson attempted to explain who Mr Farage was to a bemused Jamie Lynn Spears, the estranged sister of Britney Spears.
“He’s an ex-politician,” she said.
The ex-Brexit Party leader introduced himself to the show by saying: “I’m a hero to some people and an absolute villain to millions.
“In the jungle you’re going to find the real me. You might like me more, you might dislike me more, but you will at least find out.
“The best way to handle conflict is to tackle it head on. I dealt with snakes in the European Parliament, I can cope with this too.”
Mr Farage is earning a reported £1.5m fee for the ITV reality show – the highest fee ever paid to a contestant – after ex-health secretary Matt Hancock appeared on it last year.
Before the show the former politician said he is hoping for a Matt Hancock-style reputation rehabilitation by appearing on the new series.
