Victoria Coren Mitchell announces birth of second child with husband David Mitchell

The host of BBC’s Only Connect made the announcement of their new baby daughter, named June Violet

TV presenter and writer Victoria Coren Mitchell, 51, has announced the birth of her second child with comedian David Mitchell, 49.

The host of BBC’s Only Connect made the announcement of their new baby daughter, named June Violet, on Wednesday.

In a post on X, Mrs Coren Mitchell wrote: “Many people are assuming my tweet yesterday was a Halloween costume.

“Not at all; last week I had a baby and nothing currently fits me except cloaks. Luckily, Only Connect is a pre-record”

Previously, she had shared a picture of herself on 31 October dressed in a red cloak and black top.

Among those congratulating the new parent on social media was Countdown‘s Rachel Riley writing: “Mozel tov, hope you are both doing well.”

The news was confirmed later in The Times newspaper, with a statement saying: “MITCHELL on 26th October 2023 to Victoria and David, a daughter, June Violet sister to Barbara.”

Their first daughter, Barbara, was born in 2015 and was previously described by her father on a 2018 episode of The Jonathan Ross Show as “the best human being that has ever been born”.

Mr Mitchell married the television presenter in 2012, following a five-year relationship. The couple were originally introduced by fellow comedian David Baddiel at a party.

“I was pretty sure she was flirting,” Mr Mitchell said in his autobiography, Back Story, “but was unwilling to believe my instincts as that seemed too good to be true.”

Mrs Coren Mitchell, though, originally rejected his advances.

“I was hopelessly in love. I told no one about it,” Mr Mitchell added in his book. “I didn’t tell my closest friends or my parents of the enormous sadness that overshadowed my life.”

Mrs Coren Mitchell was the first woman to win an event on the European Poker Tour in 2006 and the first ever win to win both two European Poker Tour Main Events.

She then went on to start hosting Only Connect in 2008 and has made several guest appearances on Have I Got News for You, Would I Lie to You? and 8 Out of 10 Cats.
